Commonwealth Eye Surgery was founded by Lance S. Ferguson, M.D., and Howell M. Findley, O.D., who introduced the concept of co-management, which is optometry as primary eye care provider and ophthalmology as surgical provider and consultant. Their healthcare delivery model has swept across the nation in the past decade, changing forever the delivery of eye care in the United States. Dr. Findley authored a chapter on co-management in Optometry Clinics, and together with Dr. Ferguson, has lectured to national audiences on the subject. They have practiced together in Lexington, Kentucky, since 1985.
